WANDERING NXUMALO

A jeep tj, A podcast and a Fuji GW 6x9...I started this project on the 28th of April 2025, the beginning of my quest to explore the southern African natural landscape. For this project, I'm borrowing the "overlanding" concept as a means of navigating and wandering through the land in my 22-year-old Jeep Wrangler TJ. I explore, reflect, and document the journey with my 39-year-old Fuji GW 6x9 medium format camera and intend to work exclusively and 100% with black-and-white analog photography, while using my podcast to document and archive the process. This project is inspired by photographers, explorers, and environmentalists such as Ansel Adams, Sebastião Salgado, Santu Mofokeng, and David Goldblatt, to name a few. You can now follow the project and process on YouTube, Instagram , and support it on Patreon.

005 | 20.06.2025 | Kliprivier Nature Reserve, Johannesburg

I spent the winter of 2025 exploring Johannesburg's Kliprivier' Nature Reserve with my Fuji, and sometimes, I simply hiked from dawn to the afternoon with no camera, observing and appreciating the sunrise within the reserve's impressive vast winter grasslands and mountain peaks. For this lengthy micro-adventure, I stocked and exposed 10 rolls of Kentmere Pan 400 120mm film.

The second phase of this process involves going to the darkroom to hand-process and hand-make silver gelatin prints, and then lastly...frame and archive. I will be launching a podcast very soon...for now, kindly subscribe to this channel and follow my Instagram page via the link in bio for more updates.
