SO DAMNED AND I DON’T FEEL LIKE STAYING HERE.

I created these photographs on various occasions for various purposes such as trips to and from regular hanging – out spots and visits to families outside Johannesburg etc. But in most cases…it is planned “gatherings” with friends as usual.

It is quiet often that these occasions somehow constantly lead me to sudden prompt about my psyche or sentiments, often those that keeps me static and evokes lots of frustration about my society’s conformity, personal level and pace of progress (professionally and Socially) and of those that surround me. I read this on how I exactly came about to creating each photograph in this series.

Throughout multiple “subject matters” and photographing attempts I have embark on to making photographs that aims to translate my thoughts, I find myself photographing situations and spaces that for me should “distinctively” portray desired values such as; comfort, joy, adventure, laughter, growth and transformation. These are values that make sense and that I am anticipating at this point and time in my life, but in these photographs…I see contrary.

To be modern is to find ourselves in an environment that promises us adventure, power, joy, growth, transformation of ourselves and the world – and at the same time that threatens to destroy everything we have, everything we know, everything we are.
